Modest Discoveries in the Dordogne

We enjoyed three lovely days at the Pont de l’Ouysse in Lacave and had the chance to visit several small regional churches of the Dordogne and Lot. Today’s selection is a short preview of churches in Prats-du-Périgord, Besse, and Goujounac.

My time was spent mostly in shooting the lovely sculpted works, including the western portal of Besse and the southern tympanum of Goujounac. Those will be featured later.

  1. I like the old bricks fitted in the domed apse spiral (first photo) and the floor slabs in the second and third photos. No machines to even things out; just very hard work and determination. Thanks, Dennis.

    • Yuri, these churches are filled with lovely details and imperfections. It is one of the reasons that we shoot the smallest and most humble churches as well as the great religious buildings. How different it is in the Limousin where we are now.

  2. Looking forward to seeing the sculptural programs here!

Sorry I’ve been AWOL the past couple weeks….taking a break from the blog to focus on my own work. I haven’t forgotten about writing a piece for you though.

    Hugs.
